Type inferencing is all about making VB developers happy and comfortable. Unfortunately for those of us who can code, it means more people who can't working on our code, breaking our stuff :(
Type inferencing is fine if you don't know what something will be, only slightly better than defining something as object or void *
I kinda prefer not having it there though. It allows too much for sloppy coding.
